What is the difference between an ENG crew and a DP crew?
ENG (Electronic News Gathering) crew are trained to work fast, light, and independently — typically one or two people operating in run-and-gun news environments. A DP crew leans more toward considered lighting and camera setups, usually with a larger kit and more setup time. For news bureau work, daily news shoots, and time-sensitive stories, ENG is the right call. For documentary and branded content, a full DP crew is appropriate.
Do you work with international news networks regularly?
Yes. Assignment Desk has supplied US crew to BBC, ITV, Canal+, ARD, ZDF, Deutsche Welle, NHK, CBC, ABC Australia, and France Télévisions for news bureau support, documentary production, and magazine format shoots. We understand the turnaround requirements, delivery formats, and editorial workflows of broadcast news.
Can you supply same-day ENG crew for breaking news?
In major markets — New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington DC, Miami, Dallas — same-day ENG crew is often available. We cannot guarantee same-day booking but we handle urgent requests as a priority. Contact us immediately for time-sensitive news shoots. We have fulfilled same-day requests for breaking news stories on many occasions.
What camera formats are available for international broadcast delivery?
Our primary broadcast camera is the Sony FX9, which records in XAVC-I and XAVC-L and supports 4K, HD, 25fps, 50fps, and 100fps modes for international PAL-compatible delivery. We also have Sony FX3, Sony FX6, and ARRI AMIRA available in selected markets. Confirm your delivery spec — codec, frame rate, resolution — when booking.
Can you provide crew for an overnight or weekend shoot?
Yes. Overnight and weekend shoots are available with advance notice. IATSE union contracts have specific rules around turnaround time and overnight premiums. Non-union crew is more flexible on scheduling. Let us know your shoot schedule when requesting a quote and we will factor it in.
How does Assignment Desk work with a network's existing US bureau?
If your network has a bureau in New York or Washington DC, we work alongside your bureau staff — we do not replace them. Networks typically use us to extend their reach into markets where they do not have permanent crew (Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, etc.) or to supplement bureau capacity during busy news cycles. We integrate with your existing workflows.
