FPL (Florida Power and Light) has contracted Siemens Energy to supply six gas turbine-generator packages for the modernization of its Riviera Beach and Cape Canaveral Next Generation Clean Energy Centers in Florida.
So what does that mean for central Florida? With an efficiency of about 60 percent in combined cycle operation, this new technology will allow for a 50% of reduction in the rate of carbon dioxide emissions.
And the combined output of the plants will provide enough clean electricity to power half a million homes.
For three days, Go To Team’s Orlando-based DP/Partner, Dan Beckmann helped Synaptic Digital cover the event. The Turbine, brought in from Germany, was transferred off its cargo ship, placed onto a barge, floated through the Inter Coastal waterway, then stacked onto the back of 40-wheeled truck, where the turbine was driven along US1 to its new home.
Shooting in High Def on the Panasonic HDX 900, Beckmann and audio operator Trey Jenkins covered every inch of the Turbine’s transport.
