Not long ago, New England Director of Photography Roggg Woodruff and his apprentice Brian Behrens had the opportunity to shoot for Forbes in Boston. The project was part of the prestigious “30 Under 30” series, highlighting NBA superstar Jayson Tatum. Their task involved capturing behind-the-scenes b-roll of the photoshoot using a gimbal. Following the shoot, Forbes reporter Justin Birnbaum conducted an in-depth interview with Tatum, discussing his life, business ventures, and aspirations to bring an NBA Championship to Boston.
Roggg handled the b-roll using a Sony FX3 paired with a DJI Ronin 3, equipped with a Sigma 28-70 lens and variable ND filters. The multi-camera setup for the interview featured the same FX3 for the wide shot and two Sony FX9 cameras with 135mm lenses. For lighting, Woodruff employed 300w Nanlites with 60par softboxes, enhanced with diffusion and grids, alongside a 720b Nanlite and a 120par softbox for fill. Additional 60w Nanlites were used for hair and background lighting, while flags helped control the light spill, especially given the wide shot’s numerous windows.
The team delivered a successful shoot, capturing a compelling interview and stunning b-roll. Shooting for Forbes was a rewarding experience, and Go To Crew looks forward to future collaborations with the publication. Here is a link to the final piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L5oTBt00s8
