About Tykhari

My name is Tykhari (Tie-Car-E) Christopher Coles & I’m a Norfolk State University graduate from Newport News, VA. Currently, I’m a freelance Videographer & Editor; I’m also an aspiring Producer & Casting Director. In 2010, I joined the Newport News Public School Television (NNPS-TV), where I have had a number of different positions. At NNPS-TV, I was a camera operator (1 of 5) for two years & co-crew chief (1 of 2) for one full year. As a crew chief, I oversaw the crew members’ set-up & strike of the equipment and operated camera during productions. I graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and Journalism. I finished with a 3.525 grade point average in my major. On top of school work, I have worked with the university’s newspaper, The Spartan Echo, as deputy multimedia editor until I was promoted to multimedia editor one year later. I departed from The Spartan Echo during the last semester of my senior year to focus on my final courses. After graduation, I became a freelance photographer & editor. I’ve edited 3 short films, 2 of which were entered into competitions for the NAACP (in association with Shorts TV) and the 48 Hour Film Project contest. In November 2017, I received the photojournalist/editor position at WTKR/WGNT News Channel 3 where I served for 2 years. As a photojournalist, I gained some deeper experience & appreciation for the job, but staying in that sector of the industry simply wasn’t for me; I resigned in April of this year. Since then, I’ve only been looking forward to opportunities where my soul is fed just as well as my pockets; feeling great about my job & how I do it is priority number 1. I have had experience working with various camera equipment & working with different editing software, including Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, and Final Cut Pro.
