Andrew Burton (b. 1987 / USA./ He, Him) is a Pulitzer Prize finalist, documentary filmmaker and photojournalist tocused on the intersection of environmentalism and exploration. Burton is a Sundance grantee who has worked on Peabody Award-winning and Emmy-nominated films. He is a former fellow at the University of California, Berkeley's Investigative Reporting Program . Burton's first feature film, Newtok, was acquired and released by Patagonia Films and named "One of the Best Documentaries of the Year" by Esquire Magazine. He worked on HBO's Thoughts and Prayers (2025) on both the camera and editing team, which won a Peabody Award and was nominated for numerous primetime Emmys. He worked as a co-producer and cinematographer on the SXSW-premiere documentary The Life We Leave. He and his wife have two daughters and a dog named Bosco; they live in Seattle. Burton's upcoming documentary film credits as a director of photography and camera operator include South Sound (release 2027), Flight Path (release 2027), Authoritarians (release 2027) and A Love Like Water (release 2027). As a documentary editor, his film credits include Disrupted (2025), Taras (2025), and When They're Dead and Gone (release 2028), amongst others. Burton has worked both as a staff photojournalist for Getty Images as well as a contract filmmaker and photographer covering breaking news and long-term stories locally, nationally and internationally.
