There's something special about rolling into Phoenix, Arizona for a production day. When By Design called on Assignment Desk to bring their vision to life, Cooper Patterson was ready. As the CAMERA OPERATOR on this project, I knew we had the talent, the gear, and the drive to deliver something exceptional.
The day started at 06:00 with a call from Kaili’a Lee, our producer, who laid out the game plan. The shoot centered on *SK* [4] CP: By Design - OMB - Tucson, AZ — the kind of project that demands both technical precision and creative storytelling. Every frame needed to count, and with By Design's reputation on the line, there was no room for anything less than our best.
On the technical side, we built our setup around the sony fx3, supplemented with DJI audio gear, Drone . The lighting conditions in Phoenix presented some unique challenges, but that's exactly the kind of problem-solving that makes this job rewarding. Every lens choice, every camera angle was deliberate — designed to capture the story By Design needed to tell.
Two Days of ByDesign shoots with travel days in between. First day was at a Media Center, got there early for sunrise shoots. Each studio room and hallways had different light color temperature, so was white balancing nonstop! Wasn't able to get drone footage here since it was close to the airport and in a class C airspace. Second day was at a house which was smaller than the center but it felt like there was more to cover with the details put into the house. Was able to get drones for house coverage and to get some sick shots of the sunrise. Uploading through Dropbox when I got back to Seattle. . It's these moments — the collaboration, the improvisation, the shared commitment to excellence — that separate a good production from a great one.
