Nashville Camera Crew is Banking on Bourbon with CNBC

Our Nashville camera crew, Peter Leininger and Chris Halleen, headed to Kentucky to get a taste of the “Bourbon Boom” with CNBC.

Bourbon Boom and Whiskey Rush

If Kentucky is known for anything it’s bourbon. So when CNBC needed video and audio for a shoot in Frankfort, KY naturally I hoped that would mean a trip to the renowned Buffalo Trace Distillery. We were hired for a story on the “Bourbon Boom” that has taken the world by storm over the past decade. Our trip consisted of a visit to Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve over the course of two days. We interviewed the CEO of Buffalo Trace, Mark Brown, and the owner of Woodford Reserve, Paul Varna. We filmed the entire process of making Kentucky bourbon – from the aging of the barrels to the bottling of the liquors.

Nashville Camera Crew Gets a Taste

The highlight of the trip came on the second day when Mr. Brown offered us a taste of the world famous Pappy Van Winkle bourbon. Pappy’s is known for being one of the best and most rare bottles in the world. A bottle can go for as much as $3,000 and a shot can cost you $100. Needless to say, it was one of the smoothest whiskeys I’ve ever tasted. I’m still missing that Van Winkle taste. Bourbon is coming up from the bottom shelf to the top and you can really taste why.

Turns out the making of bourbon doesn’t just make for great video, but also an incredible experience. This shoot was the most memorable one I’ve been on to date. I can’t wait for the opportunity to get back to bourbon country with CNBC.
