“I was out in Snowmass filming remote news interviews with veterans and coaches attending the clinic. We started at 6 a.m. as the first light hit the mountains, and by the time the sun rose over the peaks, the scenery behind our interviewees came to life — ski lifts in motion, fresh tracks in the snow, and participants hitting the slopes. It was the kind of natural backdrop you dream about as a DP.
I shot on a Sony FX9 and used a Nanlite Forza 500 as the key, paired with a couple of 60Bs to balance and wrap the light just enough without overpowering the natural environment. The rising sun added a golden backlight that gave the whole scene an incredible energy. It was cold, high-elevation work, but totally worth it to help share the stories of these veterans. Definitely one of those shoots I won’t forget.”
