Food, life, fun. The National Museum of African American History and Culture recently opened and Assignment Desk was there with The Chew to get a taste of what was cooking in the museum’s cafeteria while celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and John Legend walked by.

The NMAAHC is the 19th museum to enter the Smithsonian Institution. The museum highlights African American history and culture, so it is only fitting that the cafeteria does the same. We toured the facility with The Chew’s Carla Hall and the museum curator. We spoke with the head chef about the experience he wants to create using food and the significance of its history. We also got to taste some of his dishes and they were phenomenal!

We filmed the segment just before the museum’s opening ceremony that the president would attend, so the secret service was everywhere setting up security.
